New Zealand woman landed her dream job of training Labrador puppies to aid the visually impaired: 'Nothing beats seeing one of our guide dogs at work'

Dog people, gather 'round, because we've just found the person who is living all of our best dreams. Let us start by asking a very simple question: Would you like to work hands-on with the cutest Labrador puppies every day? We assume everyone just nodded strongly with agreement, since this truly sounds like the dream of every dog lover, wherever they are. But what if we added to the question that you know these precious little puppers are on a mission to aid the visually impaired? Hearts melting all around, we're sure. Not just insanely cute, but also helping hoomans in need. Truly the dream, right?

One woman shared with the online canine community that this dream of hers has come true. And honestly? We're part proud, part jealous. What can we do - she's practically living the dream of every dog person out there. She not only gets to work with some of the most pawdorable puppies ever, she also helps the society she lives in. She's an angel, truly. And we're still jealous.

But are we going to wallow in our envy? Not at all! We want to spread her wholesome experience further, from the small training facility she works at in New Zealand, to doggo lovers worldwide. We're proud of her work and proud of her for achieving what we all dream about. What a wholesome person, working with pawdorable puppers.

    OP ItsNotLabScience Yeah it's very bittersweet, we really do get to know each and every pup, and they're sorely. missed when they move on. Nothing beats seeing one of our guide dogs at work out and about though! They provide so much independence and love to their handlers and it makes it all worth it

    OP ItsNotLabScience It varies from handle to handler, based on their needs and also being sure the dog is a bonded match with them and their lifestyle. I'd say average wait is 6 months

    nox_vigilo Are you training them for seeing eye dogs, mobility assistance, seizure alert? A couple of friend's parents took in Lab puppy's to raise for The Seeing Eye when my friends headed to university. It was great fun almost always having lab pups around during school breaks. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to let the young dogs move on to the next step of their training. It is for such a wonderful act, these dogs change peoples lives so dramatically, I'm fairly certain my friends p

    OP ItsNotLabScience I started as a volunteer puppy raiser, and here we are now! They're being trained to become guide dogs, for blind, deaf blind and vision impaired handlers though if a pup is thought to be better suited in another career, we can adjust their pathway and support their training for mobility assistance, search and rescue, biosecurity/customs, emotional support etc... their potential is limitless! I'm in awe every single day, Labs are simply amazing. I feel so honoured to be invol
